Objective: Students will learn about human body proportions. Students will learn to use proportion and drawing observations skills to accurately draw a wooden mannequin. They will create form and contrast by rendering the final drawing with a full range of value.
PRACTICE SKETCHES: 30 points participation Instructions:
Open your sketchbook or use a piece of paper .
Write “Timed Mannequin Sketches” at the top of the page (you will use 2 pages).
At each table there are 4 mannequins in posed in different positions (Do NOT TOUCH THE MANNEQUINS!). You will have 13 minutes to each mannequin. Draw the 4 different mannequins on the pages. There should be 2 mannequins or more on the paper. Break down the mannequin into simple basic shapes.
The teacher will tell you when to rotate clockwise to another seat at your table, so you draw a new mannequin. You will NOT need to change tables.
If you finish the drawing before the 13 minutes is up, then add shading to the drawing.
If there is time at the end of the class, add some shading to the drawings.
Upload your sketches into your portfolio.
FINAL ARTWORK: DESIGN A MANNEQUIN ARTWORK. 100 points.
Instructions:
Position the mannequin in an interesting and appropriate pose.
On a piece of canvas board or small canvas, use a pencil to draw exactly what you see, outline only. Have the mannequin go off the page in three areas.
Choose two complimentary colors and paint the artwork from dark to light. Avoid brush marks if possible. Try to establish a nice blend from one color to the next. Establish hard line by laying the colors rather than outlining lines.
Add a background color. Show dark to light.
Add a creative element. For example you can add more than one mannequin or add objects. Be creative and different.
