Objectives: Students will use drawing observational skills to accurately draw a shoe large onto a sheet of paper. The will transform it into an abstract piece by applying diagonal lines over the top of the drawing, then color with alternating drawing pencils and colored pencils.
STEP 1: 1. After Observation Drawing Skill Lessons , students will draw their shoe from direct observation. If students are wearing a flat (girls) or uninteresting shoe, they may choose to draw from the reference sheet for the final project, but must complete a sketchbook drawing of their own shoe to begin with.
It's important to review Value Scale and applying pressure with hand to create different values.
Step 2:
Draw 5-7 diagonal lines across the drawing with a ruler.
Moving from left to right, alternate between B/W and color each time you come to a new section. It is okay to have 2 B/W or 2 Color spaces that are crisscross from each other. Shade the color sections with many colors so it is FUN!
Determine your light source before you begin and keep you values consistent with the direction of the light source. Make sure to have a FULL range of values from black to white. The shoe should be fully shaded! Also add value and different colors to the background as per the medium you are supposed to use in the section you are rendering.

ADVANCED TECHNIQUES:
Objective: Students will study the shape/form of shoes. They will draw observational sketches of three different views of a shoe (top, bottom, side) and take this knowledge to create a three-dimensional shoe sculpture.
